Red Vine - First Tango Night
Red Vine - 2cd Tango Night with Mitch and Annette
Red Vine (including a saturday with the KC AllStars)

The Red Vine closed for business on 25 April 2006, and gave a farewell party the night of the 28th (friday)

I found out when I walked up to the Red Vine for a meal during dinner break at City in Motion rehearsals at the GEM for their concert (20th Anniversary) the next evening. It was bit of a shock. I always feel the hurt of a business going out of business. I really hate to see this but I don't think they ever got enough traffic through there. I really think there is a problem with attracting businesses and other enterprises in the "Jazz District." I won't know how to fix it but I remember a few years ago when I talked to the owner of the Mardi Gras Club (now also closed) who wanted to know where the promises of traffic were. He had already waited several years and nothing was building at that point. So now, a really nice restaurant and dancing place, The Red Vine, is gone.

These are few pictures from the second night of tango at the Red Vine.
Howard Carney DJ'd and Mitch and Annette Weiner returned to give the lesson.
They are the regular teachers each week at the Red Vine.

Mitch and Annette are the regular tango teachers

Edited text from Howard's email: "Tango and Salsa starting tonight! Free Tango lesson from 7:30 till 8:30 every week with husband and wife team Mitch and Annette Weiner. The venue will be mostly smoke free with smoking only at the bar. Open dancing at 8:30. Music mix: about 80 - 85% Argentine Tango music and 15-20% Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha and Rumba. At 11:30 -midnight the tango will switch to include “Alternative Tango” (music you can dance Tango to but is not traditional Tango) The cover charge will start at 8pm and will be $5. A weekly free raffle between 11:30 and midnight with prizes such as VIP passes to area Salsa and Tango nights, private dance lesson gift certificates, and Dance Art."

(You cannot sit at the bar or order drinks if you are under 21. Mostly smoke free except for the bar )

The thought of the pictures are great and it looks like a lot of fun. I know a professional photographer who is still a college student looking for work, email me with questions or to set up a meeting. Thanx!
