"Blast From the Past"
Swing Contest

The Kansas City winners were among the five couples selected to dance at the national premier.

The Grand Emporium was wall-to-wall people. Terrific dancing. High Energy. Great time.
 
First Place: Sarah Stone and Louis Bar (bottom right)
Second Place: Janette Burk and Chris Rose (middle)
Third Place: Sara Saunders and Joshua Hernandez (upper left)
Honorable mention: Ann Miller and Kirk Marsh (upper right)
(The honorable mention category was added by the judges who really wanted to recognize the skill
and appeal of Ann and Kirk. They are just so fun to watch. They really got everybody going.)
For that matter: the crowd was also terrific. It was a cheering, yelling crowd.

Each couple danced one at a time
Each couple brought their own music on CD disc
Judging - Each of three categories was worth 200 points.
1) talent and skill, 2) enthusiam and  effort, 3) presentation and dress.

The preliminary rounds provided three couples for
sunday night's comp from each of the four following spots:

The 12 couples, in the order in which they danced. 
The order was determined by drawing lots.

New Line Cinema hosted the swing dance competitions in approximately 50 cities
across the country to  choose 5 couples to dance at the BLAST FROM THE PAST movie
premier party in New York City on January 27.

(New Line Cinema was represented within the Kansas City area by Alvin Guggenheim Associates,
531-0994, who organized the KC area competitions. Other agencies represented New Line elsewhere.)
 
"Blast from the Past" will be released February 12th.
Cast includes Sissy Spacek, Christopher Walken, Brendon Fraser,
 Alicia Silverstone and David Foley.
 
From each of several first rounds of competition three
winning couples were picked for a single
second-round competition January 17th.
 
THE SCORE OF THE 1ST PRIZE WINNER AT EACH
SEMI-FINAL COMPETITION WAS COMPARED TO
THE SCORES OF ALL OTHER 1ST PRIZE WINNERS
FROM SEMI-FINAL COMPETITIONS NATION-WIDE
BASED UPON IDENTIAL CRITERIA.  THE TOP-FIVE SCORING
COUPLES WERE AWARDED THE GRAND PRIZE TRIP TO NEW YORK
TO PERFORM AT THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "BLAST FROM THE PAST"
ON JANUARY 27.
Kansas City's Winners Won One Of Five National Spots!
Winners, Sarah Stone and Louis Bar were among the top-five scoring couples nationwide.
Couples from Atlanta, Kansas City, Seattle, San Francisco, and Tampa/Orlando were selected for the event.
The World Premiere of New Line Cinema's "Blast From the Past." held January 27th
in New York at Sony Lincoln Square. The "Blast From the Past." was
at Webster Hall where Louis and Sarah danced along with the other
four winning couples from the "Blast From the Past" Atomic Swing Thing Competetion.

THE GRAND PRIZE WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY PHONE AND/OR BY MAIL ON OR ABOUT
1/25/99.  EACH CHOSEN COUPLE WILL RECEIVE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM
THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "BLAST FROM THE PAST" IN NEW YORK CITY ON
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27TH.  THE FIVE COUPLES WILL BE SHOWCASED AT THE
PREMIERE FOR A SWING DANCE DEMONSTRATION.  (WINNERS WILL NOT RECEIVE
ANY COMPENSATION OR PAYMENT FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE.)  TRIP WILL CONSIST
OF ROUND TRIP GROUND OR COACH AIR TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM NEW YORK
CITY, 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTS (ONE ROOM, STANDARD DOULBE OCCUPANCY) HOTEL
ACCOMMODATIONS AT A HOTEL SELECTED BY SPONSOR AND TWO TICKETS TO THE
PREMIERE.  (ARV OF EACH GRAND PRIZE: $2,000, TOTAL ARV OF ALL GRAND
PRIZES: $10,000).  METHOD OF TRAVEL (AIR, CAR, BUS, ETC.) IS AT SOLE
DISCRETION OF SPONSOR.  EXPENSES AND COSTS NOT SPECIFICALLY STATED ARE
