Prepping for Saturday's Competition

Update page

In only a couple of months, with classes every monday and wednesday evening, these young dancers are getting ready for their first competition. The initial hesitant moves are being replaced by better basics and a few "pretzels."

I remember the end of one of the auditions. A very young boy who had to be almost pushed onto the floor to try out (he had come with his sister) tried a little spin by himself as he left, first looking around to make sure no one was looking (he missed me). He did his spin, then a hop followed by a quick walk to the family car.

Instructors Kellie Cardell and David Shaughnessy demonstrate the "pretzel," an overhead move in which arms stay connected while the dance partners move around each other (See photo just above)

Coverage
Monday (May 9th) also saw a visit from the KC Star. Reporter Sara Stites and photographer Shane Keyser, shown here at work with the second of the two groups of young dancers.

My daughter auditioned for the Kids program and participated in the contest. I also began dancing with Louis shortly after. This is the place for anyone-child or adult who would like to learn dancing. My daughter has now decided that ballroom dancing is her passion as well as mine. Pease go and check out Louis and Company you won't be wasting your time.
